1st Snow of 2008, Finally Inspiration to Blog.
It sucks. I hate snow. I hate a little snow in particular. With a little snow you can't play with the kids. There's not enough for a snowball fight. No snowmen, or snowperson if you're one of those weirdos that need that sort of disambiguation. It makes hunting miserable so PETA take heart! It makes field work even more miserable, so PECA eat it up! Your day is has finally come.
A little snow just means that it's cold out and there is probably more cruddy weather on the way. So until the big snow comes or spring arrives my opinion of a little bit of snow remains on the negative side of life.

It's Been A While
I have not posted in a while and my last two posts were just pictures so in an attempt to catch up my three readers I thought I'd spend some time talking about the mega-festival, Apple Blossom, and what's been going on around me otherwise.
Apple Blossom, for those who don't know, is a pretty damn big deal for the town of Winchester, raising millions of dollars by drawing in thousands of people. There are dances, a circus, a carinival, the largest firefighter parade in the country, therefore the world, there are dinners and luncheons, and foot races, the grand feature parade, and more. I like it mostly for the people who live along the parade route usually have some kind of party going on. We watched the grand feature parade from three locations and two of the three fed us beers, wine, and had a pretty good spread. The other did not provide snacks but we had our rolling coolers with us and they were packed with beer and wine. As you might imagine a weeks worth of this kind of frivolity make for a long recovery.
Allergy season is here and has landed on my face. I made it to the allergist three years ago and began my regimine of twice weekly getting shots to "better my quality of life", or so Winchester Asthma and Allergy Clinic would have you believe. Many hundreds of shots later I am still having reactions and now the medication in the syringe makes my arm, typically where I get poked by the cutest little grandmotherly nurse who has a sadistic side the size of the Apple Blossom's Firefighters Parade, did I mention that's one huge frickin' parade?, swell to the size of a grapefruit, itch, and become in general sore for a day or two. Anyway, I suppose the shots are working because so far this year I've only had blinding swelling once as opposed to thrice weekly in years past. Let me just say that waking up with your eyes gummed shut, stumbling to the shower and having to melt away the over night build up of slime and grit that has crusted your eyes closed ain't no fun!
The Ladyfish is back on her trailer! Finally all painted (on the bottom, the top I can paint while she's on the trailer), keel back in place, new halyards and we're ready to go. Only two whole months later than I had hoped but hey, the water is still going to be pretty cold right now anyway... SO BACK OFF! I'm happy it's done and I'm sure wifey-poo will be glad that I can now clean up the basement, a bit, and the yard a bit more. The basement can't be cleared out completely just yet because our mega-deck isn't quite finished yet. It's only been 14 months that the tools and lumber have been laying about and now we're a Mir, no, mere three or four hours away from calling in final inspection. That's three or four hours of labor away, not literal time. That translates into late summer by my calculations.
I'll leave you with this:

Things I've Learned or Things I've Should've Learned By Now

1. Funny to me is not necessarily funny to others.
2. Being nice and being honest are hard to marry.
3. Friends are quite often better than family.
4. When family is on top, there's nothing better.
5. Trying too hard will lead to embarrassment.
6. Working harder on yourself comes with getting older.
7. Arguing is pointless 9/10 of the time.
8. When arguing, don't be mean but mean what you say.
9. Don't ask for advice you have no intention of taking.
10. Having too many hobbies is a good way to have poor results in them all.

Robots are the new Devils!
Armor touting, all-terrain traversing, freaky looking quad-bots are bad, see
this for details, but for me THIS robot is surely the predecessor to our demise.

B.O.A.T. Stands For...
Break Out Another Thousand
And how! Just getting ready to for this season I've blown tons of dough. New halyards, new bottom paint, new safety equipment, depth sounder, seemingly hundreds of other bits and pieces, and I still have a list of tons more I "need" for the boat.
It's all worth it though. Starting in April my family and via open invitation all our friends are going to be camping and sailing somewhere every month starting in April and going throughout the summer and fall until October.
We should have all the experience we need by the end of summer to be an efficient racing unit, snatching regatta trophies from the unsuspecting hands of would-be race winners and cackling madly as they pierce our nimble craft with eye-daggers of hate.
Whoa! Where'd that come from?

Oh, No! I'm A Self Promoting Sell-Out!
Before Christmas last year I reluctantly created a myspace profile, www.myspace.com/bpsookie, so that I could trade music with my best friend. We never traded any music but I did keep in touch with him, initially. Since I was on there anyway I decided to seek out old friends and found six or seven people who I have not been able to track down via conventional methods in years. Yea myspace! On the down side myspace sucks. It's slow, the pages take forever to load typically because people have their favorite song-o-the-day load automatically, and then there is the SPAM on top of SPAM smothered with SPAM with a bit of SPAM on the side. Boo myspace!
My good friend and brother in law gave me an emphatic "NO" when I suggested he get a myspace account and read my blog from time to time. "You should blog on blogspot so I can read your most introspective and very sensible thoughts." quoth he. "Brilliant Old Bean" quoth I in return. Now there are two avenues for the good citizens of the blue planet to expose themselves to my... well, me.
But alas! Is there yet another way to learn a bit more about the very modest, and humble Brian Patrick? Why yes, there is.
If one were to navigate the interweb and find themselves in the vicinity of www.theboaters.com and then accidentally hunt and peck their QWERTY keyboard in a very particular order and the word "ladyfish" found it's way into a search box that may or may not be found on afore mentioned web page then one might find some info on a sailboat owned by, you guess it, your's truly. Well, your's truly and his wife.
I guess the self promoting part is accurate but not the sell out. I have nothing of integrity to hock to my fellow righteous and worthy like minded peeps. Even less likely, anything to hock to "the man" who could take said thing and mass produce and commercialize it for the hordes of lemmings who are hungry for the next big thing. Who is "the man" anyway? Maybe next time.
Cheers

WTF!
Okay. Alright. E-fucking-nough! I've enabled Adsense by Google on this here nifty little blog. But, like the title says, what the fuck?!?!?! Bible! Jesus Christ! How do I rate this sort of ad when nothing I've ever selected on this blog, surfed on the net, or otherwise done in my meager, humble, dispassionate life, would or could give anyone, any human, any lawnmower man type being the idea that I would be interested in links, back links, or advertisements dealing with the omnipotent, all knowing one who smites in the sky.
The ads are gone.

Bitter, Terrible Punishment!
Oh woe is me! Nobody can know my sorrow! I have placed a wager in my infinate wisdom and lost. I must have read the tea leaves incorrectly. That, or the stars aligned against me. Zeus and I have never really gotten along since that night on Olympus with Andromeda... Uh, nevermind.
And now, with great trepidation I approach my punishment. Nah, my trial. Nah-nah! My tribulation! Five dates with my wife?!?!?!?!
Oh yes, my losing bet is forcing me to spend five periods of time; lunch time, dinner time, evening time, or, and hopefully, night time with my wife.
Like Warren Zevon says; "Poor, poor, pitiful me"! I'm smiling through my humility because I made the right bet!
Cheers
